Haven’t Written in a While

30 Jan

Not a lot to report, but we are doing ok…now. Jessica is just finishing getting over a bad bout of bronchitis. We’ve been staying busy, and a little too much at that.

Jessica just finished her Weight Loss Challenge at work, and she got 3rd place! Congratulations Jessica! They gave her $50 for doing so well.

In other exciting news, we are going on a cruise again this year. We enjoyed it so much last year that we couldn’t pass it up again. Might as well while we can, right? We got our brand new passports and everything, so we’re counting down the days. We’ll be leaving out of Fort Lauderdale and stopping by Jamaica, Bahamas, Cozumel, and a Princess Cruise Line private island. Check it out below and stay tuned in a couple months or so for pictures/video!

Hobbies and hall passes

2 Jan

Well, I’ve been having a good Christmas break. I am not quite ready to go back to school, but alas, I do not dictate the calendar. So, I will be back at work tomorrow. I get to go back to work with some new stuff that I made for my classroom. I have been really into modge podge and scrapbook paper lately.

I feel like I’ve been really crafty lately. I’m kinda proud of what I’ve been doing lately. Thought I’d share, maybe give someone an idea out there. I stole the clipboard idea from a craft show I went to, and applied it the hall passes, which I stole the basic ideal from other teachers. I just made them mine.

I’ve made 2 clipboards that I painted the edges a color that matched the scrapbook papers that I chose. Then I (after trimming) modge podged the papers to the front and the back of the clip board. I laid the paper down over a thin layer of the modge podge, smooth and let it dry. Then I modge podged over the paper to seal it. (It bubbles a bit, but if you let it dry overnight, it will lay down. So, don’t do anything drastic). After letting it dry, I put vinyl letter on it to make it very much my own. If I want the letters to be more permanent, I would have modge podged the letters down.

Tomorrow, I am taking new hall passes to school with me. I took wall plates (the covers that go over empty socket holes in the the wall), and I painted the edges and modge podged scrapbook paper on them. I cut a hole in the paper where one of the screws would go. Then I laid vinyl letters on them and sealed them. To finish, I tied a loop with ribbon through the hole. I burned the knot to make it harder to break.

Happy crafting! :)
